The school district and Board of Education will now have to come up with a revised budget for a second vote before resorting to a contingency spending plan.
Brewster voters, meanwhile, passed a ballot issue to borrow $754,000 and buy new school buses, by a vote of 835 to 660.
In addition to passing their school budget, Mahopac voters gave the OK to borrow up to $1 million for new school buses
Putnam Valley Schools were seeking to borrow up to $500,000 for new school buses, but power outages prevented them from announcing the outcome of Tuesday's results.
In Carmel, the school budget was approved by 672 to 552 votes.
Haldane school voters approved their budget by a vote of 471-142, as well as a proposition to buy a $55,000 student transportation vehicle. Haldane also got approval to create a $1 million capital-reserve fund for facilities improvements.
The Garrison school budget passed by a vote of 71 to 32.
